In Conversation With Claudia Damichi

by Accumula Collaborator

We love this time of year, because we get to commission local creatives for our Christmas window. Super excited to have our dear friend, the talented artist Claudia create  this years "Christmas disco window " for us ( think she was inspired from the fun times we have had on the dance floor together! ) We asked her our Standard store questions:

Let’s get the main ones out of the way. ….

Who are you, where do you live and what do you do?

Hello. I’m Claudia Damichi. I live in Saint Peter’s in Sydney. I’m an artist and creative collaborator.

What makes a Sydneysider?

Sydneysider. For me, this city is encapsulated by the word freedom. The possibility and opportunity to be able to dream big, live spontaneously and also enjoy the most incredible beaches and climate.

What is the favourite thing in your wardrobe right now?

I’ve just had a beautiful vintage peach coloured lace dress re-modelled into a skirt and strappy bustier.

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

Definitely a morning person. Always bursting to get into all the projects and ideas I’ve dreamt about the night before.

What advice would you give your 16-year-old self?

Always stay on the dancefloor, it’s the most fun place to be.

Name your style muse

Brigette Bardot meets Vivienne Westwood (rock n roll French bonbon)

Before I die, I’ll buy...

A Sonia Delaunay drawing

Where’s a favourite place you’ve travelled recently and why?

We recently went to Sri Lanka. A true tropical paradise. Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa’s hotels definitely the highlight for me.

How do you approach fashion and getting dressed?

I live a double life in terms of fashion and getting dressed. I have my ‘leave the house and be seen in the world’ clothes, and then I have my artist painting clothes. I probably spend equal amounts of time in each. My art wardrobe is usually just the tired pieces from my seen in the world life... but covered in paint.

Sneaker, runner or trainer?

All three (especially if gold, silver or pink)

What or where would be your last meal on earth?

Homemade traditional gnocchi making party at our place with lots and lots of friends.

What’s your poison?

Buying flowers... Ah yes and Sancerre.

Locals Only -Tell me something about your hometown that I wouldn’t read about in the guidebooks (Secret spot that only a local would know about)

There is a breathtaking Sydney harbour coastal walk with amazing small swimming bays and beaches all along the way that starts in Rose Bay and goes all the way to Nielsen Park. Hard to find though!!!
